Getting started

We recommend students apply for admission online. It is easy, secure, and helps keep you from making mistakes.

To begin the application process, create a MyPennState accountMyPennState is your one-stop shop for customizing your Penn State admissions experience. Creating this account will allow you to complete the application on-line, receive customized messages, check the status of your application, and more. Be sure to remember your MyPennState user ID and password.

Key dates

Penn State has rolling admissions, which means there is no deadline for applying. To increase your changes of getting your first choices in major and campus, we do have recommended dates for completed applications.

First-year students

November 30 for fall and summer admission
November 1 for spring admission

Transfer students

February 1 for fall and summer admission (with some exceptions for special programs)
October 15 for spring admission

International students

February 1 for fall and summer admission
October 15 for spring admission


What do you need to complete your application?

  • Your application (Web application preferred)
  • A $50 nonrefundable application fee
  • A completed counselor form along with an official copy of your high school transcript (this requirement is waived for adult students)
  • SAT I or ACT scores (SAT code #2660 or ACT code #3656)
  • Official transcripts from other colleges attended and AP test scores, if applicable

If you have not already done so, please request that your SAT I or ACT test scores be sent directly to Penn State Undergraduate Admissions from the appropriate testing agency. It is not necessary to send test scores using the "rush" option.  Testing services send us scores electronically at the student's request on a nearly weekly basis.

In addition, you should have the following information available to include on your application:

  • Social Security number
  • SAT I and/or ACT Test date(s)
  • High school address and College Board code number
  • Immigrant visa information (if applicable)
  • U.S. military service information (if applicable)


When will I get the decision?

The Undergraduate Admissions Office strives to evaluate undergraduate applications as quickly as possible.  You can check the status of your application by logging into your MyPennState account (see also general dates for decisions by semester and type of application at the bottom of the Steps to Apply web page).
